THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and in particular Article 207(4), first subparagraph, in conjunction with Article 218(6), second subparagraph, point (a)(v) thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the European Commission,

Having regard to the consent of the European ParliamentConsent of 26 March 2026 (not yet published in the Official Journal). ,

The Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the People’s Republic of China pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 relating to the modification of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union is hereby approved on behalf of the UnionThe text of the Agreement is published in OJ L, 2026/1077, 18.5.2026, ELI: http://data.europa.eu/eli/agree_internation/2026/1077/oj. .

(1) In accordance with Council Decision (EU) 2023/1477Council Decision (EU) 2023/1477 of 14 July 2023 on the signing, on behalf of the Union, of the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the People’s Republic of China pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 relating to the modification of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union (OJ L 182, 19.7.2023, p. 82 , ELI: http://data.europa.eu/eli/dec/2023/1477/oj). , the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the People’s Republic of China pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 relating to the modification of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the Union (the Agreement) was signed on behalf of the Union on 17 October 2024 , subject to its conclusion at a later date.

(2) The objective of the Agreement is to provide for the apportionment of the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the Union.

(3) The Agreement should be approved,

The President of the Council shall, on behalf of the Union, give the notification provided for in the AgreementThe date of entry into force of the Agreement will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union by the General Secretariat of the Council. .

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
