OJ L, 2024/1143, 23.4.2024, ELI: http://data.europa.eu/eli/reg/2024/1143/oj.
(1) Pursuant to Article 15(4) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, France’s application for registration of the geographical indication Mothais sur feuille was published in the Official Journal of the European Union OJ C, C/2026/688, 29.1.2026, ELI: http://data.europa.eu/eli/C/2026/688/oj. .
(2) No statement of objection was received by the Commission under Article 17 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143.
(3) Under Article 18(1) and (2) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, on 16 March 2026 the German authorities notified the Commission of their comments, requesting that information included in the product specification, namely the maturation period, be added to the single document. The French authorities have taken the comment into account and have amended the single document.
(4) The French authorities informed the Commission, by a letter received on 8 January 2025 , that the company Poitou Chèvre, an operator which had been legally marketing a product under the sales name Mothais sur feuille, using that name continuously for more than five years, was not complying with the product specification, in particular as regards the requirement to use raw milk. The point had been raised in the national opposition procedure.
(5) Since the conditions laid down in Article 20(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 have been fulfilled, Poitou Chèvre should be granted a transitional period to enable the continued use of the name Mothais sur feuille. In view of the information provided by the French authorities, the transitional period should be extended until 31 December 2029 .
(6) The French authorities informed the Commission, by letters received on 8 January 2025 and 18 August 2025 , that, by Order of 28 November 2024 of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests on the protected designation of origin Mothais sur feuille (NOR: AGRT2431695A), operators fulfilling the conditions laid down in Article 20(6) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 had been granted transitional periods in respect of certain provisions of the product specification with effect from 8 January 2025 , the date on which the application had been lodged with the Commission. This was to overcome temporary difficulties with the long-term objective of ensuring compliance with the specification. The operators concerned were EARL Clé des champs, Gaec La Ferme de Barroux, Gaec Lait’nergie et Gaec des 3 villages.
(7) The French authorities had calculated the duration of the transitional periods on a case-by-case basis and for each provision of the product specification to reflect the time required to ensure compliance with the relevant provisions. As regards the provision in the specification that the goats were to have access to grazing or an outdoor area for at least 120 days per year, as soon as conditions allow, a transitional period of five years had been granted to Gaec La Ferme de Barroux and Gaec des 3 villages, and a period of two years to Gaec lait’nergie and EARL Clé des champs. As regards the provision in the specification that wrapping was prohibited, a transitional period of two years had been granted to Gaec La Ferme de Barroux. As regards the provision in the specification that at least 85 % of the dry matter in the annual diet was to come from the geographical area, a transitional period of two years had been granted to Gaec La Ferme de Barroux and to EARL Clé des champs. As regards the provision in the specification that the supplementary feed was to contain at least three sources of different cereals and/or oilseeds and/or protein crops from the geographical area and account for at least 30 % of the annual total, a transitional period of two years had been granted to Gaec la Ferme de Barroux and to EARL Clé des champs. As regards the provision in the specification that the feed was to be composed of at least 60 % dry fodder, a transitional period of two years had been granted to EARL Clé des champs. In accordance with Article 21(4) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, the consolidated version of the single document should therefore be republished for information as an Annex to this Regulation.
